چکیده

In this paper, maximum likelihood estimator is proposed for passive localization of narrowband sources in the spherical coordinates (azimuth, elevation, and range). We adapt Expectation/Maximization iterative method to solve the complicated multi-parameter optimization problem appearing on the 3-D localization problem. The proposed algorithm is based on maximum likelihood criterion which employs the source signals recorded by 2-D array under near-field assumption. Expectation/Maximization algorithm decomposes the observed data into its components and then estimates the parameters of each signal component separately providing computationally efficient solution to the resulting optimization problem. Finally, the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is illustrated by some numerical simulations.

A maximum-likelihood parametric approach to source localizations

Source localization using passive sensor arrays has been an active research problem for many years. Most near-field source localization algorithms involve two separate estimations, namely, relative time-delay estimations and source location estimation. In this paper, a one-step maximum-likelihood parametric source localization algorithm is proposed based on the maximum correlation between time ...

Maximum Likelihood Source Localization Using the Em Algorithm to Incorporate Prior Parameter Distributions

In this paper we introduce a new algorithm for the estimation of source location parameters from array data given prior distributions on unknown nuisance source signal parameters. The conditional maximum-likelihood (CML) formulation is employed, and ML estimation is obtained by marginalizing over the nuisance parameters. In general, direct solution of this marginalization ML problem is intracta...

A Decoupled Approach for Near-Field Source Localization Using a Single Acoustic Vector Sensor

This paper considers the problem of three-dimensional (3-D, azimuth, elevation and range) localization of a single source in the near-field using a single acoustic vector sensor (AVS). The existing multiple signal classification (MUSIC) or maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) methods which require a 3-D search over the location parameter space are computationally very expensive. A computationall...

Maximum Likelihood Wireless Sensor Network Source Localization Using Acoustic Signal Energy Measurements

A maximum likelihood (ML) acoustic source location estimation method is presented. This method uses acoustic signal energy measurements taken at individual sensors of an ad hoc wireless sensor network to estimate the locations of multiple acoustic sources. Compared to existing acoustic energy based source localization methods, this proposed ML method delivers more accurate results and offers th...

The impact of wind-generated bubble layer on matched field sound source localization in shallow water (Research Article)

This paper investigates the effect of the wind-generated bubble layer on the underwater sound source localization in the Persian Gulf shallow-water environment through computer simulation and the matched field processing technique. An underwater sound source of 2-10 kHz located at depths of 10, 45, and 75 m was considered at a distance of 4 km from a linear vertical receiver array. The estimati...
